Follow-Ups

The Follow-Ups box is where mail comes back to you. Here's what lands there and how to work through it.

What lands here

  • Reply reminders you set with N (nudge me if nobody replies).
  • Emails returning from snooze.

Rows are sorted by when they arrived in Follow-Ups, most recently returned on top.

Only mail that needs action now is listed: a reply reminder whose time has not arrived yet sits under the "Waiting" strip at the bottom of the list, and moves up into the list (and into the Follow-Ups count) the moment its time passes. Waiting rows read "Waiting for reply · due Sep 10, 4:30 PM"; overdue rows read "Follow-up due · Sep 9, 4:30 PM" in red.

Mail you already handled moves to the "Actioned" strip under "Waiting" (closed until you open it, and not counted in Follow-Ups). A reminder is actioned when the other person writes back after your email, or when you send another email in that conversation. If you followed up yourself, the conversation is also archived; if they replied, the conversation comes back to Inbox (or Other, for senders you send to Other) when it was sitting in Sent or Archive, and Gmail is updated to match, so you see the reply. Snoozed, Future, Trash and Spam conversations are left where you put them. Provider labels such as [Superhuman]/AI/Waiting never put an email in Follow-Ups on their own. A Remind on your follow-up starts a fresh reminder for that email. A returned snooze counts too: if anyone wrote in that conversation after the snooze ended, it moves to Actioned. Items stay under Actioned for 90 days. Follow-Ups re-checks this when the app starts and when you press U.

Clicking a Follow-Ups row always opens the conversation, even when it is not part of the mail already loaded — WonderMail fetches that one conversation on demand and shows a brief loading line while it does.

Pro Tip: treat Follow-Ups as your second inbox and clear it daily. Everything in it is something you already decided mattered, so it deserves attention before new mail.

Working in Follow-Ups

  • Follow-Up rows use the same layout as Inbox and Other rows, and clicking one opens it in the Follow-Ups reading pane.
  • Follow-Ups is a view over your mail — archiving, snoozing, and moving all work exactly as they do elsewhere.
  • Press P to jump to Follow-Ups.
  • New reminder emails sent by Superhuman go straight to Follow-Ups instead of your Inbox. Archiving, trashing, or replying clears them, just like any other Follow-Ups row. Reminder emails already in your Inbox stay where they are.

For how the reminders themselves work, see "Reply Reminders".
